Energy storage is the basic technology for new energy industries such as energy conservation and environmental protection, clean energy, energy interconnection, and electric vehicles. As an important carrier of energy storage, the high safety, high quality, high efficiency and low cost manufacturing of batteries are the inevitable requirements for the development of the new energy industry.

In 2000, when I was still researching robots and applications, I met Academician Chen Liquan. Academician Chen's green dream about future energy storage attracted me deeply. Since then, I have forged an indissoluble bond with the research and industrialization of lithium battery manufacturing technology and equipment technology.

Although there is no vigorous accomplishments, my team and I have always adhered to this field, actively explored, and never stopped. In the past two decades, we have witnessed the start, rise, growth and expansion of the battery manufacturing industry. We played a fundamental role and actively engaged in the energy supply mode of our country's mobile products, the reduction of pollution emissions, the efficient use of clean energy, and the realization of smart energy.

Status of industry

At present, although the energy storage battery industry technology has been developed for more than 20 years, no breakthrough has been made in its real large-scale manufacturing technology.

The real entry of batteries into the large-scale manufacturing industry began in 2020. China's electric vehicle market has gradually shifted from policy-driven to market-driven, and the application of energy storage batteries has begun to mature. The industry has truly ushered in a period of large-scale and rapid development, and the development of its manufacturing technology has entered the fast lane.

With the advent of the battery manufacturing era in 2020, we are delighted to see that energy storage batteries have become an important pillar of China's energy transformation and one of the paths to achieve our country's goal of "carbon peak in 2030 and carbon neutrality in 2060".

The development of energy storage battery technology is changing with each passing day, especially the energy storage industry is on the way to large-scale application and innovation of manufacturing technology. We believe that it is necessary to summarize the progress of the energy storage battery manufacturing industry, understand the past, and think and plan on the manufacturing infrastructure and industrial development trends, so that we can avoid detours in the future development of the battery manufacturing industry.

At this stage, in the process of upgrading energy storage battery manufacturing to high-efficiency, large-scale, and intelligent, our country's existing equipment technical capabilities and production models cannot meet future quality requirements and production capacity development needs. The core problem of upgrading the industrial structure of energy storage battery manufacturing is the upgrading of industrial equipment.

We look forward to taking advantage of the great opportunity for the development of the energy storage battery industry to respond quickly to the market needs, learn from the experience and methods of industrialization in different industries, and combine the features of energy storage battery development to promote the development of manufacturing processes, manufacturing equipment and intelligent innovation, and go on a path of independent innovation and development of China energy storage battery manufacturing.

The content of this book

Based on the needs of large-scale manufacturing of advanced energy storage batteries, the book 《Advanced Energy Storage Battery Intelligent Manufacturing Technology and Equipment》 focuses on the intelligent manufacturing of advanced energy storage batteries, expounding the manufacturing technology, manufacturing process, and the current situation, trend and composition of the manufacturing equipment of advanced energy storage battery cells. Also carried out In-depth analysis and elaboration of the requirements, setting principles and assurance methods and measures of energy storage battery manufacturing digitalization and intelligent manufacturing technology, energy storage battery manufacturing environment control, manufacturing measurement and defect inspection, manufacturing safety management, energy consumption management, manufacturing plant construction, etc.

Yang Rukun determines the overall idea, framework and structure of each chapter, and is responsible for the draft compiling and finalization of the book. The content of each chapter is led and completed by the person in charge, and is reviewed by Guan Jingdang, Wu Xueke, and Zuo Longlong.
